02/23/2012 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Philadelphia Flyers hope that their latest victory can shake them out of their near month-long slump. They'll look to win at Edmonton for the first time in almost 11 years as they battle the Oilers.
The Flyers kicked off a four-game road trip on Tuesday in Winnipeg and unleashed 55 shots on Jets' goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. They needed each one as they had to rally for a 5-4 overtime victory.
Wayne Simmonds tied the game with 9.7 seconds left in regulation and Jaromir Jagr clinched the extra point on his goal with 43.6 ticks remaining in overtime. Jagr set a new NHL record with his 16th career overtime winner.
Simmonds, Scott Hartnell and Claude Giroux all logged a goal and an assist for the Flyers, who avoided a season sweep by the Jets and won for only the third time in their past nine games overall. Ilya Bryzgalov made 22 saves.
"As far as the attack goes, I really liked our game and I'm really proud that the guys kept coming, and pumping, and it was one of those gutsy efforts that you look back on and might have been one of our best and toughest wins of the year," said Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette. "You know, we keep fighting and keep pushing to get the two points."
Giroux has eight points in his past three games and recorded a career-high 10 shots on net versus the Jets. He is tied for second in the league with 70 points.
The Flyers sit in a tie for fifth with the Penguins in the Eastern Conference with 73 points, one behind the Devils for the fourth spot.
Philadelphia had lost five straight to the Oilers, bookending that skid with shutout losses, before logging a 4-1 home victory in the lone meeting last year. The Flyers, though, are 0-2 with a tie in their last three trips to Edmonton, having not won there since March 19, 2001.
The Oilers take aim at a second straight victory overall after snapping a three-game slide with Tuesday's 6-1 win over the Flames. Sam Gagner and Jordan Eberle had a goal and two assists each to pace the offense, which accounted for six straight goals after Calgary tallied the game's first marker at 9:12 of the first period.
Taylor Hall and Ryan Smyth added a goal and an assist, while Ales Hemsky and Eric Belanger also scored for an Oilers club that scored four goals in the middle frame to snap a nine-game skid to the Flames.
"Even though they got the first goal of the game, I thought we set the tempo right from the very first shift," Hall said.
Devan Dubnyk made 21 saves in the victory.
Edmonton was without head coach Tom Renney for a fourth straight game due to concussion-like symptoms stemming from when he was hit in the head by a puck during morning skate on Feb. 15.

MySportsbook.com and Kentucky Derby Offer Bonuses
The 2008 Kentucky Derby has announced a $1-million bonus for this weekend’s 134th ‘Run for the Roses’ and MySportsbook.com is doing the same.
Well, not quite $1 million, but MySportsbook.com is offering a 75% rebate for Kentucky Derby lines. Check out the exclusive horse racing bonus for all the details.
According to MySportsbook.com, the favorites for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky are: Curlin (+250); Street Sense (+500); Scat Daddy (+700); Circular Quay (+750); and Nobiz Like Shobiz (+800).
Derby organizers announced this week that there will be a $1-million bonus at the 2007 Kentucky Derby odds if the first-place horse wins by more than 6 1/2 lengths – the margin of Barbaro's victory last year. The bonus would be divided Saturday among the winning trainer, jockey, owner and a charity, with each receiving 25 percent. The designated charity is the Barbaro Memorial Fund.
''It's certainly creative, it's certainly fun and it has something for the horsemen, which we always want to embrace,'' Churchill Downs president and chief executive Robert Evans said at a news conference. ''What's really cool is it will force us to remember Barbaro.''
Meanwhile, the Derby favorite – Curlin – is going against the odds this year. It's been 125 years since Apollo won after skipping his 2-year-old season, and not since Regret in 1915 has such a lightly seasoned horse worn the blanket of red roses.
Arkansas Derby winner Curlin – unbeaten in three career races – tries to overcome both those obstacles in Saturday's 133rd Derby.
''We're not running against history,'' trainer Steve Asmussen said Monday. ''We're running against who they load up.''
Six other horses have run in the Derby without benefit of 2-year-old races and with three or fewer starts. The best any of them managed was a sixth-place finish by Showing Up last year.
Asmussen dismissed suggestions that Curlin's lack of racing experience could keep him from the winner's circle.
”He exudes confidence and he's got a great presence about him,'' the trainer said. ''I feel great about the position we're in. He's not worried about anything, why should you be?''
The Kentucky Derby is at 4:04 p.m., ET Saturday.
